Short recap of the FME User Conference

Writing this the day after the FME User Conference in downtown Vancouver wound down. We were treated to a large number of interesting presentations and hands-on sessions, as well as the already infamous FME Idol competition.

Especially interesting was the unveiling of FME Server, which will bring a whole new dimension to Spatial ETL. Some of the new functionality of FME 2008, such as true 3D support (speaking of a new dimension…), many new formats and transformers as well as many interface improvements (drag and drop transformers onto links!).

Another great part is of course meeting face-to-face with the Safe staff and other FME users. It’s always a good thing to get to know the person behind the email-address.

I’ve certainly learned a lot here, had a good number of lightbulb moments. The next one hasn’t been announced yet, but I would strongly recommend this conference to anybody who is involved with FME and wants to learn more.
