Tom Patterson releases a new physical map of the world

Tom Patterson of the US National Park Service has just released a new physical map of the world. Just like his other products (Natural Earth and Natural Earth II and CleanTopo2), this one is being released into the public domain.

Tom has combined several techniques in order to produce this map, the two most impressive ones (imho) are a new projection created with FlexProjector and plan oblique relief. This plan oblique shows landforms as if they are viewed at an oblique angle from a southern direction. Tom used Natural Scene Designer for this, but it is also possible to achieve this effect in Visual Nature Studio. Hopefully there will a tutorial on how to do this available soon.

This is an absolutely gorgeous map to look at and quite obviously the result of many hours of hard work. Many thanks to Tom for making this available.
